
A woman posted a video saying segregation should never have ended. I took her seriously, because a lot of people feel what she feels, and I answered her in a short video of my own. EURweb wrote up that answer on September 29.
Here is where I land. Black America did not make a mistake by integrating. We were right to go where we wanted to go. What hurt us is that our spending integrated faster than our ownership. Once we could shop anywhere, our dollars left the neighborhood, and the banks, stores and businesses that used to keep those dollars circulating at home were not rebuilt in the new economy.
Going backward will not fix that. Owning the businesses, the property and the capital in the places we live will. If you are not at the table, you are on the menu.
