The percentages of U.S. adults ever diagnosed with high blood pressure or high cholesterol rise rapidly with age, particularly during middle age. Rates of obesity, a risk factor for chronic illnesses later in life, surge primarily in early adulthood, more than doubling between the ages of 18 and 30.
