
In 1977, a Bank of America banker walked into my classroom in Compton and taught us about money. He was there because of the Community Reinvestment Act. That one visit set me on the path to everything I have built since.
In this op-ed for American Banker, I explain why I still honor the CRA and why it needs a software upgrade. Banking has changed. The rules should reward real lending at scale, internships and apprenticeships, and data that proves the money reached the community.
