Rainbows only follow storms. That is good theology, and it happens to be good science too. When the wind blows hard, you don’t curse the wind. You strengthen the foundation.
Right now a lot of people are feeling the ground move. Markets are jumpy, speculative bets have lost their shine, prices are still high, and layoffs are touching industries that once felt safe. I wanted to record an episode for exactly this moment, one that is about discipline instead of hype. I’ve lived long enough to know that recessions don’t destroy disciplined people. Panic does.
I lay out a plan in three movements: how to protect yourself, how to survive, and how to position yourself to thrive while others freeze. Cash is oxygen, so we talk about reserves and cutting the lifestyle spending that was never worth it. Credit is power, so we talk about keeping a strong score and calling your creditors before they call you. I share advice I gave a friend who had just lost a good job, why skill security is the new job security, and a personal story about the one time I let fear make an investment decision for me. I learned from it, and I hope you can learn from it cheaper than I did.
This isn’t only about money. It’s about dignity, agency and building a life that can stand up in any weather. Storms don’t last forever, and people who prepare are the ones standing when the sun comes out. When it does, I want you ready.
