
Most of the arguments Americans have about capitalism are arguments about two different things wearing the same name.
Capitalism is not greed. It is not a bailout for the well-connected, and it is not a scheme to keep working people working. Those are corruptions of the system. Capitalism, done right, is the most powerful engine for lifting people out of poverty the world has ever seen, and it has been kept out of reach of too many of us for too long.
This Thanksgiving I set the table with a plain-language explanation. What capitalism actually is. What it is not. How to recognize the good kind and the bad kind when you see them. And why I keep saying that the answer to bad capitalism is not less capitalism, it is more of us in the game.
