Operation HOPE looks back at National Preparedness Month to review some of the activity at HOPE Coalition America offices across the country. HOPE held and participated in activities to help individuals and business owners to take advantage of disaster planning and recovery resources available through Operation HOPE.
On Saturday, October 25, from 11 am – 4 pm, the Atlantic City Long-Term Recovery Group (ACLTRG) hosted a second anniversary Sandy Storm commemoration. It was held outside at the Second Baptist Church property in Atlantic City, NJ. The joyous occasion marked the completion of 108 home renovations in Atlantic City, NJ during the past two years.
Approximately 300 families came out to participate in the day’s events, which included complimentary food, children’s activities and an interfaith service. The children enjoyed using an inflatable Bounce House, dodge ball, jump rope and Hula Hoop competitions, and sack races for all ages.
Other organizations were present, providing information and personnel to answer questions, including Atlantic City Health Department, Mental Health Association, Atlantic County REVIVE, Family Success Center, Barnabas Health Turning the Tides, Community Food Bank, Legal Services of New Jersey, Operation HOPE/HOPE Coalition America and the Red Cross. Funding sponsor was the National Baptist Convention.
“We still have homes that need repair,” stated Donna Nelson-Lee, ACLTRG Case Manager Supervisor. “We still have people coming in the door. We’ll be here as long as we’re needed.”
The event successfully demonstrated the collaborative efforts of many Sandy-relief partners, engaging with the community.
