Years ago I used to board flights with a portable computer that weighed about fifty pounds. The keyboard folded down, a printer flipped out the side, and I took over my entire row in coach to run my businesses from the air. People laughed at me then. I have been a quiet tech geek my whole life, and this episode finally opens up the toolbox.
People will tell you to be successful. Very few tell you how. So I recorded this one on the road, far from home, to show you the actual systems that let a small special forces team operate like an organization many times its size. If technology is not at the center of your business and your personal life, you are not standing still. You are falling behind.
I start with the framework I have used for more than two decades: vision, mission, strategy, business plan, execution, tactics, to-dos, to-dones, assessment and readjustment. Then I show you the software that carries each step, from mind mapping to a private note-taking app I call my second brain, to shared documents, project boards and team messaging. I also explain why you should never try to run a business by text message, and why I split every organization into hunters, skinners and cooks.
As a bonus, I share how I pack, down to the luggage that lasts for years and the shoes that keep my feet happy through a full day. Buy it right and you buy it once. Time is the one thing none of us can manufacture, and good tools help you win more of it back.
