America is brilliant at developing athletes. We scout early, coach constantly and build a pipeline from Little League to the majors. We have nothing close to that for the jobs that will decide our economic future. That was the argument of my essay in TIME.
I called for a national K-12-to-career pathway: business partnerships in schools, real apprenticeships, sector training in tech, health care and the skilled trades, and hiring commitments from companies that need the talent. We have disconnected our education system from our economic engine. We don’t just need to fix what’s broken. We need to build what’s missing.
